Ah, something else to pay for ... but for the full GRO, it would probably be worth it.

Horrendous site to look at though; you Brits have gone berserk with flash ads -- far worse than the yanks even. Thank my stars for NoFlash (for IE); companion to Firefox Adblock, for this site and all others -- don't know what I'd do without Adblock for Ancestry! Those ads can certainly induce seizures ...

Hi Kathryn

FreeBMD is good but not total coverage yet. If I can't find it on FreeBMD my favourite site is Familyrelatives. Searching 1866-1920 is fantastically easy. Indexes are fully transcribed so you don't have to wade through pages and pages of indexes. Cost isn't too bad either though I did get my fingers smacked recently for over use!!
Trouble is I love trying to help people with their brick walls, as I cant even see the top of mine!!

Okay, Lindsay! Where did you find that Theresa birth?? I was positive I'd searched by that spelling too ... yup, it's not showing at FreeBMD.

Oh well -- I got to the right place the crooked way around!

Oh, and -- you're welcome, Angela! And now you know how to use FreeBMD for next time, right? ;)

Thanks a lot AGAIN Kathryn, now I've got another couple of leads, CHEERS!

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 20 Nov 2007 17:07

Well then here's Beatrice's birth!

Name: Beatrice Austin
Year of Registration: 1915
Quarter of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep
Mother's Maiden Name: Drakeford
District: Stoke Upon Trent
County: Staffordshire
Volume: 6b
Page: 465

I must have screwed up the Austin-Drakewood search the first time. ... No, duh duh duh -- it's DrakeFORD, and I was searching for DrakeWOOD. Brain glitch.

Teresa may just not be transcribed yet, and/or have been a little younger than stated at marriage.

Here are the other two siblings, as transcribed so far:

Ernest A Austin
1913 Jul-Aug-Sep
Drakeford
Stoke Upon Trent Staffordshire

Harold Austin
1912 Apr-May-Jun
Drakeford
Stoke Upon Trent Staffordshire

Hi Kathryn

Suddenly the name Beatrice rings a bell with someone and teresas sister was called Beatrice,

Thanks

Have you tried ordering this one:

Name: Teresa E Austin
Year of Registration: 1913
Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar
Mother's Maiden Name: Talbot
District: Wirral (1837-1974)
County: Cheshire
Volume: 8a
Page: 794

to see whether the father's name matches? She might have been fibbing about her age a bit when she married, if she was older than the groom!

On the other hand, this is probably her parents' marriage (you know the father was Harold):

Name: Harold Austin + Beatrice Drakeford
Year of Registration: 1910
Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun
District: Stoke Upon Trent
County: Staffordshire
Volume: 6b
Page: 299

Oh, oops, here's another one:

Name: Harold Austin + Martha Brown
Year of Registration: 1912
Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec
Spouse's Surname: Brown
District: Stoke Upon Trent
County: Staffordshire
Volume: 6b
Page: 477

But checking at FreeBMD for births with both those combos of surnames, there are no Austin-Drakewoods, and these Austin-Browns, in Stoke on Trent:

Births Sep 1919
Austin Arthur Brown Stoke T. 6b 465
Austin Sarah E Brown Stoke T. 6b 465

Births Sep 1915
AUSTIN Irene Brown Stoke T 6b 402

Births Jun 1913
Austin Edith M Brown Stoke T. 6b 476

Do you suppose Teresa might have been a middle name?

If you have her marriage certificate, might any of those names be among the witnesses?

Might Harold Austin have been a stepfather?

Unfortunately, FreeBMD hasn't progressed far enough that we could look for a later marriage of Harold Austin to Teresa's mother, if that were the case, without reading the actual images for each year ...

Hi heather

How can I do that when I cant find it registered anywhere and I'm not even sure her birthdate is correct.

Heather

Heather Report 20 Nov 2007 15:37

You need to find her birth cert for mum and dad.
