Hi Jo,

It looks as though the only possibility is that the name was miss-transcribed. I don't envy you this one.

Good Luck

Phil

Yes, I too have checked out all possible matches and found the spouses, but none of them match up to Henry Henley and Sarah Wood!!!
So annoying.

Thanks Phil for helping me

Jim

I have got all the census info, and yes Sarah was in Birmingham in 1851.
In 1861 she was also in Birmingham with Henry Henley and says she was married!!, likewise 1871, 1881 and 1891.
Have 2 possible deaths for her in 1897 and 1898

The marriage is just elusive!!
Many thanks for your help Jim

Hello Sandra

No, I have not thought of your answer. However, I cannot find a marriage on BMD /IGI or Ancestry of Henry Henley, whose name would still be Henley, whether just married or widowed.

I don't think Sarah would be a widow, if born c 1834, as she should only be 21ish at marriage. Likewise Henry, who was born in 1830.

Thank you very much for looking and giving me ideas. Much appreciated.
Regards
Jo

Hi Jo,

Wood may have been Sarah's maiden name, which woukd appear on birth certificates, but also possible to have married Henry as a widow?? Have you checked this possibility..

Hello Selena

No, does not appear to be right. The wife's name is definitely Sarah Wood, as I have bought some birth certificates to confirm her surname!

I think they must just have left them off, OR they never got married!

Thank you for your help

I have a Henry Henl(e)y who was born in 1830 Bath, Somerset.
He moved to Birmingham
I also have a Sarah Wood b c 1834, Burton, Staffs.
She also moved to Birmingham.

I cannot find their marriage - can anyone help?

I know they had the following children
Harriet Henley b ca Mar 1857
Henry James b 1859 d 1866
Sarah Ann Henley b ca Dec 1862
