I guess I followed the same route that you did. I found George born 1858 Bath on the 61 census but his mother Ellen was widowed. Looked for her on the 1851 census to find her husband and it was William Francis, the porter.

Need help finding a William Young, he is the father of George Young who was born 1857/8 Somerset. William appears on Georges marriage certificate occupation 'Druggist' 1883 it does not say on the certificate that he was deceased at this time. The only William I can find is a William Francis Young born 1829 Somerset occupation 'Porter' died 1860.
Can anyone help please.
