Trying to find more info on:GEORGE HICKLING BORN C1814 IN SILBY OR BARROW UPON SOAR, LEICESTERSHIRE.

Found so far:
A George Hickling was convicted 4th January 1841, to be transported to Van Dieman's Land, voyage date 4th April 1841, vessel LAYTON, area Leicestershire.
J-R" - Tasmania? What was he convicted of?

"possibility for George Hickling
Deaths Reg Jun 1840 Bingham 15 337"

Is there any way of finding out which of these george Hicklings is MY George Hickling?

ie would the Death register show his wifes name? and would the Voyage entry show his wifes name - then I would know which is the correct one???
Anyone got any ideas - or anyone have access to records please? - He married a "Mary Widdowson".

Many thanks

Heather

Does it say where he was convicted on the record? You could email the records office local to the event to see if they have court records.

I have a feeling that Ancestry introduced some info on transportation. Sorry I don't have time to check as I'm just off to work.

I dont have access or knowledge of how to find this info - if anyone could help, it would be most appreciated.
thanks again

I expect you already have everything on ancestry?

Name: George Hickling
Vessel: Layton
Convicted Date: 4 Jan 1841
Voyage Date: 6 Apr 1841
Colony: Van Dieman'S Land
Piece: HO 11/12
Place of Conviction: Leicestershire
On the image he is bracketted with two other men - may be they all committed same crime as they all got 10 years. Their names are John Parker and John Hambler (Fambler?) They were convicted at the Leicestershire Quarter Session - so you have a fair bit of info there to follow up with Leicester records office.

Arrival Date: 1841
Vessel: Layton
Piece: HO 10/38
Province: Tasmania
Title: Ledger Returns A-R

On the ledger he appears to have been assigned to a Mr Newitt at Black Charlie's Plains?

On this ledger he is in "Lovely Banks Party"

Hey, he got pardoned:

In that ledger it notes "The only word against him is one of a very trivial character and he has completed 6 andhalf years of his 10 year sentence"
