Thanks everyone for your help. As far as I know dad was an only child by Edith - I know Isaac had 2 or 3 children by his first marriage.

Was your father the only child? To give us a clue when to look for the marriage? Rephrased: Do you know of any other children.

Edith M Scott aged 45 registered Uckfield district vol 2b page 191.

You can order the death certificate from GRO for £7 if you quote all the references, they come in about a week at the moment.

My father's mother, Edith May Scott (maiden name Smith) died when he was about 2 years old, in about 1943 Crowborough, East Sussex. I have, so far, been unable to find any details about her, other than her name being listed as mother on my fathers birth certificate.

She was the second wife of Isaac Scott - I haven't been able to find a listing for their wedding either. Isaac's first wife, Elizabeth Kate Peerless, also died young. I have also been unable to find details of her death.

Any advice or assistance would be gratefully received!
