I am looking for James and Ann POOLE on the 1841 census, possibly living Deptford Kent or Rotherhithe Surrey. They are not the family at Rotherhithe St with Matilda and Mary etc.
I don't know their ages unfortunately. They married in 1800 in Deptford Kent. They may/may not have a son John Samuel Poole with them.
Typical profession for James could be sawyer, waterman etc.
Their other son, Charles Poole who was married by 41, was mistranscribed as Cool!
Any help is appreciated,
Many thanks Selena

Alice, thank you for that. It's possible I'm not sure because Ann seems a bit young as she had a child in 1799. I don't know of any connections with Gillingham and their descendents all stayed in Deptford and Rotherhithe.
I do appreciate your time and help,
Selena

I would be grateful if anyone else has time to have another look for a closer match.
I have to let my daughter use the computer now for homework but will check back later,
Thanks, Selena

Michael, thank you very much. I was surprised about the milliner (hat maker). I will try and follow up the children as I was not aware of them.
Your help is much appreciated,
Selena

Occupation on the 1841 census listed above looks like possibly navvy but more likely navy. Do you have any idea of times of death etc for James and Ann?

Hello Diane, I've just been emailing a connection in US. We think James and Ann were alive in 1851 with a daughter Mary living with them.
Do you mean Navy on the Greenwich census or the Gillingham one?

Michael and Lew:
Thanks so much for your help, its really appreciated. Knowing the occupation helps tie it down.
I was unable to open the link posted; Ancestry wanted me to sign up!
Another kind member found a John Samuel Poole on the 1841 in Islington but I don't think that is the family as he was a goldsmith.
I would be very grateful if anyone could find John Poole on the 1841 census. He was born 1810 Deptford. He maybe in the hat making or haberdashery business!
Thanks again, Selena

Thank you Joan, I appreciate the lookup.
I'm still not sure if either of them are right and don't know what to do next to be sure I've got the right man.
I suppose its possible John Samuel was married to someone else before Elizabeth (his wife on 1851). I'll try to find some marriages etc on IGI.
Thanks again, Selena
