Marriage 1826

ProfilePosted byOptionsPost Date

I have a marriage from the George Bell Marriage Index from the register of St John, Newcastle (1824-1826).

Lancelot Usher married Sarah Hunter on 2 May 1826.

I don't know where I can look next for any details from that marriage, such as occupations, parents names, witnesses names, birthplaces, etc or even if it is possible to do so.

I'd be very grateful if anyone can advise or help.

Many Thanks
Janet Garraghan

Thanks very much for all the information Reg, it's all incredibly useful stuff.

I was wondering more about the marriage, in that I have the date and names from the index, but where would I find the actual marriage registration which might possibly give me more information, such as fathers' names and occupations and perhaps witness names? That information might confirm I have the correct Sarah Hunter and might help me go further back.

Thanks again.

The chances of all that info being recorded in those days are very poor...........registration as such did not exist until 1837

You'd need to view the Parish record to find out whether the info included was what you seek.

Janet

WHY have you posted an identical request on tips?

It is timed at nearly one hour after my last posting on this thread............

Reggie

I am very grateful to you for the extra information you gave me and it will come in very useful.

But my original question was asking where I could go to look up the parish record for further details of the marriage which I had already obtained from the index rather than asking anyone to look anything else up, although as I say, any information at all is very much appreciated.

Basically, I don't know where the marriage records for that parish would be held or how to go about finding them.

When I realised I had probably posted my question in the wrong place, I posted it again on Tips.

My apologies if I have offended you by doing so.

The details of where you can see copies of the parishes records are shown on the the appropriate GENUKI webspage:

Thanks very much Pete. I've sent an email off to the Northumberland Collections Services for Northumberland County Council as a good place to start.

Thanks again for your help.
