Find Ancestors

Thanks for that. I have certificates going back to William but the problem is that GRO have no record of Williams birth. I have Williams marriage certificate and is says his father is Robert. I do not see them on any censuses prior to 1891. I find on IGI a baptism record of William Mcdonald Irving Saint Peter Liverpool which lists a mother as Elizabeth. Could this be him I do not know? Any advice on how to find out about baptism records

I think you need to go back to what you have as FACT..start with yourself...your parents etc..confirm everything with certificates.

If only it was so simple. GRO have no record of his birth neither do Scotland. This is why i seem to be at a stand still.

Thanks for that Dave. I did find this but my head is going round I could not figure out that it was his great aunt. Does this mean that Williams Grandad has a sister named Helen?? My head is in bits with all this due to the fact that there are 3 generations of William with the same name. I am getting totally confused

You need to buy some certificates at £7 each from GRO online otherwise you could be following the wrong line.

The closest I could find was on the 1871 Scotland census:

William Irving c1869 Liverpool staying with his Greataunt Helen Irving c1819 Ruthwell, Dumfrieshire.

Trying to locate any info for William Mcdonald Irving (born 1869). (My Great Grandfather) I have found William as an Adulton the 1891 census says born in Scotland. 1901 says born Liverpool. was he born in Liverpool and brought up in Scotland? This i cannot find. IGI I find a William Mcdonald Irving with father robert and mother elizabeth baptised Saint Peter Liverpool How do I find out whether there is anymore info from this baptism ie. mothers maiden name. (I know his father if robert because I have his marriage certificate I cannot find him on any censuses as a child. Where does he disappear to? Does anybody have a William with robert and elizabeth as parents. There is a family in cumbria but this is not them because he as a middle name of bragg not Mcdonald. I am totally stopped and going round in circles. Can anybody help me
