Anthony's birth registration

MMN is INMAN

Year 1938
Qtr Jul-Sep

District Manchester N
Volume 8d

So the challenge is now to find a marriage between Joseph Braithwaite and ? Inman sometime 1930- 1938

You'll probably be needing to find the information yourself rather than waiting for someone to happen by and hand it over, Cindy. ;)

There's only one Joseph Braithwaite birth in 1910 exactly, but there are a couple in 1911 and 1912.

If you go to

http://www.freebmd.org.uk

and search for Joseph Braithwaite births, you can see which looks most likely maybe. Then you can use the info there to order a birth certificate at

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

It will give parents' names.

Meanwhile, you want to find the marriage of Anthony's parents. That is more awkward, because the period in question -- sometime 1928 to 1938, presumably -- has not yet been transcribed and made searchable.

As I understand it, anyhow -- although I think there is some resource somewhere that has records transcribed, and someone here may be able to check that.

Otherwise, this involves a painstaking and time-consuming search through the images of the pages of the GRO, at least four per year; they're slow-loading, is the main pain.

You can do that at Ancestry.co.uk. You can get a 14-day free trial membership for the purpose, for instance.

Oh, okay, I'll do the Anthony search, since you have a year.

... Well, no, I find no Anthony Braithewaite birth in 1938, so your date must be off and a broader search would have to be done.

If you actually already know Anthony's mother's name, you're ahead of that game already. What you then need to do is find her birth at FreeBMD, if possible.

Once you have your gr-grparents' parents' names, you can find them and their families in the 1901 census, and so on backward.

I'm off to bed, but if you post any additional info you have, someone on the morning shift may be able to help out with some of this. But do do the searching at FreeBMD for yourself to the extent you know what to look for.

Do you have Anthonys birth certificate? If so this will give his parents names. Hopefully then, you can look for their marriage cert.

Hi,

I'm trying to find out any information about my great grandfather Joseph Braithwaite (b: 1910 ? ) and also my grandfather Anthony Braithwaite (b:1938, in Gorton Manchester ). I have hit several brickwalls in my search with alot of conflicting information. If anyone has any information about the people i looking for no matter how little the information is or even if it is a long short I would LOVE to hear from you.

Thanks Cindy
