Please new eyes required. Joseph and Ann MORTIMER had a son George William, born in 1877. In 1881 census they were living at 11 Chapman Place, St Georges in the East. I CANNOT FIND THEM IN THE 1891 census for some reason. I believe Joseph died in 1883. George William joined the army in 1896 giving his name as George CRAWLEY. I cannot find a marriage between his mother and a CRAWLEY!! I know that people have been missed off the 1891 census or the entries are unreadable. If any kind person can point me in another direction, I would be grateful. Thanks in advance. Rose & Dave.

I can't even see them in 1881...........please give more info.
It is ESSENTIAL, when asking for lookups, to say where and when people were born.
Where they were living in any given year does not really help to find them at any other time.

Hello Rose and Dave,
Could this be your Ann in 1901? It states that she is widowed and as head of household. It also states that James is a brother (could be brother-in-law).

Dave & Rose. Wow!!! Great info. Thanks to you all. The trouble is trying to find the son of the marriage between Joseph MORTIMER and Ann Burwood. George was born Dec 1877,in St Georges in the East and appears on the 1881 census living at 11 Chapman Place, St Georges in the East. Great.....but where is he in 1891??? We Believe that Joseph died in1883. When George joined the army in 1896, he had changed his name to George CRAWLEY and stated that his next of kin was his mother, Annie CRAWLEY!! So perhaps, when his father died, he was brought up by the CRAWLEYS, although they were not married at the time. How confusing. Does this all make sense??? Dave & Rose.
