Aside from being sure which Mary Ann she was, are you sure which person, of the two on each page, she married?

It's usually best to specify just one partner's name when ordering a marriage certificate -- at least if you're sure that person is the one you're after.

Lordy, what a lot of Mary Ann Burdetts there were in Leicestershire in 1861 ...

Various wild cards later, here they seem to be in 1871:

Name: Thomas Whiteker
Age: 22
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1849
Relation: Head
Spouse's Name: Mary A
Gender: Male
Where born: Clare, Suffolk, England

Name: Mary A Whiteker
Age: 22
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1849
Relation: Wife
Spouse's Name: Thomas
Gender: Female
Where born: Leicestershire, England

Civil Parish: Leicester St Mary
Ecclesiastical parish: St Paul
Town: Leicester
County/Island: Leicestershire
Country: England
Registration district: Leicester
Sub-registration district: West Leicester

I'm butting in here ... not that I wouldn't anyway ... because I have some sort of Burdett connection.

Mary Shield who married William Campion 01 APR 1811, Cold Ashby, Northampton, had a son named Burdett Campion, and her daughter Hannah married a David Burdett (David Burditt in their 1849 marriage and the 1841 census).

Mary and William were my grx3 grandparents. Per the 1851, Mary was born in Somerby, Leicestershire, c1782.

There's a William Shield in Tilton, Leicestershire, in 1841 who had a son named William Burdett Shield. William Sr.'s mother was Catherine Swann; my surmise is that Catherine's husband Edward Shield, born 1784, son of Henry Shield and Elizabeth Carter, married 1773 Skeffington, was a brother of Mary Shield Campion. Although those parents had a Mary born/died in 1788 and my Mary doesn't appear in their batch ... unfortunately, the IGI doesn't cover Somerby for the period needed.

Anyhow, I think that William Sr's wife was Martha Burdett, and they married Q4 1837, Blaby. Haven't got marriage cert or kids' birth certs to confirm that, but William Shield and wife Martha did have son William Burdett Shield.

So blah blah blah.

If any of these tenuous Leicestershire Burdett connections sound familiar to you, shout!

If and when you do get that marriage certificate -- or if you already know -- tell Mary Ann's parents' names and we can maybe try to compare Burdetts. There being 100s of them in Leicestershire ...
