Do you not want to meet/know these relatives then? I thought you meant you wanted contact with any living relatives. As the brothers are unlikely to be living I cant see why your dad would mind meeting cousins who have not been party to any ill feeling.

If you are only doing it for research purposes you could trawl the complete bmd index for people with that name marrying but you would need to send for the certificate to see if they have the right father.

Are you sure these people stayed in Essex? What were their occupations as there is a Leslie S Prosser shown in an 1984 BT directory as an electrical contractor in Bexhill/Tunbridge area. Are those birth years accurate?

Have thought about ringing people but not sure how the land lies, i.e would it be a welcome phone call, my dad doesn't want anything to do with it as his father left him when he was only about 3 or 4 so don't want to open to big a can of worms. May well try the electoral roll. thanks x

Its a pretty rare name - have you tried ringing everyone in the Essex area with that surname? Have you tried the electoral roll? Have you tried sending a letter to local papers in Essex? Have you checked any obituaries for that surname?

I did a quick search (above) and there is another member on site who has them in her tree (Sally). Have you made contact with her?
