Trying to find my Aunty's Father 'Australia'

I am trying to find anything I can on my Aunty's Father.
This is the story as I know it:::
Mabel Henry ( my nanna ) married a Douglas Pettit in 1947 in North Sydney NSW, she had an affair with believe it or not " a sailor " . As a result of that affair my Aunty Wendy was born 1949. Mabel and Douglas divorced in 1950. In the same year she married my grandfather Patrick Merritt. Wendy's surname is Merritt so I have no leads unless someone ( a Sailor ) can recall being in Sydney around that time and having met a Mabel !!! She was around 22yrs old at the time..
