Dear Sue,
You have got me thinking now......You are correct, Betty 2nd marriage was to a sailor. It is an interesting and plausible proposition that you have suggested (one that I had not thought of!) I suppose as well that not all deaths were recorded, as it was early (1838 ish) so maybe he was one of the ones that missed the GRO indexes.

Thank you for your comments.

I notice that Betty re-married a sailor.

Just a thought, but I wonder if Robert could have been a sailor too, and maybe died at sea.

If this was the case, not sure whether or not the death would show up on the GRO indexes.

Dear Mike and Sheila,
Thank you so much for responding to my request.

It looks as if he is married to Margaret, which is not the right person, which is a shame. However it confirms that I can rule this family out.

I know that Robert was alive in about 1838 as his son Robert was born then but as I have said the only death that I can find is for 1846 (and I know that it isn't the son Robert as he is alive in 1881). Never mind, it may be a mystery that will never be solved.

Thank you once again for your kindness.
Shane

I am trying to determine when my relative Robert Maxwell died. I have kindly been given his wifes census information but he is not with the family in 1841. However the only death that I can find is for 1846.

I have looked for his census details on ancestry and the only one I think may be of interest is:
Robert Maxwell bc 1806 living in Cumberland.

I would appreciate it if someone would look up this census for me please. I would like to know who he was living with and his address etc. I am hoping that I will be able to rule him in or out.

Robert and Betty Hays were married in 1832 in Crosscanonby, Maryport, Cumberland. The family seem to have come from Cumberland although I can not rules out that Robert or his parents came form Scotland.

Thank you for looking at my request.
