hi everyone.im really struggling to find the birth of my g grandfather robert stapleton in 1858 he states in his army record that last birthday he was 19yrs born in oakham in the parish of greetham,rutland.i have managed to obtain his marriage certificate through a researcher his marriage certificate where he states his father as john stapleton occupation a baker.searched bmd not there,where his father was born unknown can find no trace,they really are a mystery.can anyone help please.regards ruth

Does the age on his marriage cert tie in with the age when he joined the army?

Have you found him on any census?

hi potty, only age given on marriage cert given as full age,the only census i am fairly certain about is the workhouse and aldershot,he joined the army in 1858,pensioned out indublin in 1879 given age 40yrsi wonder whether to order death cert for john and see.thanks for helping it is appriciated.regards ruth

Yes, I would get that John's death certificate - the informant may give you some clues.

I can't find any parish records for Greetham on line but I think that is going to have to be where you will have to look.
