Who were the witnesses on the marriage certificate? Do they give any clues?

I wouldn't take ages on death certificates to be definite either, as it all depends on the informant's knowledge and memory. I have death certificates where the age is out be 5 years - even my grandmother's headstone has the wrong age on it!!

Hi Kathleen
William was 76 in 1933 when he died, so William the sailor is not of the right age, and it says definitly he was a tailor ob Margarets marriage certificate,
The 2 Williams born in Lancashire open a possiblity.
but thank you so much for your time.

Thanks Linda, will keep an open to see if there is a connection

Hello Pam, had a quick look on BMD, and couldnt tie her with any there

Thanks to all

If the William on the vessel isn't the right one, there are these two possibilities for his birth:-

Name: William Regan
Year of Registration: 1857
Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec
District: Ashton Under Lyne
County: Cheshire, Lancashire
Volume: 8d
Page: 382

Or:-

Name: William Regan
Year of Registration: 1858
Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun
District: Warrington
County: Cheshire, Lancashire
Volume: 8c
Page: 139

Are you sure the occupation for William says Tailor and not Sailor?

There is this William on board a vessel in Cumberland in the 1901 census and it says he is married:-

Relation: Sailor
Gender: Male
Where born: Kinsale, Ireland

Ecclesiastical parish: Harrington Harbour

Is it possible that all the Regan's came from Ireland and that is why they are not on the 1901 census?
