Parish records would be a place to look if they were baptised. They're not on IGI but you seem to have a good idea of the district they were born in to make a start.

Is this a dead end? I have ordered Maria's marriage certificate in the hope that this might help.

This has become quite a dead end for me now as Emma and her sister are born before birth certificates are available.

Her father Benjamin's marriage is also very hard to locate as this is before the index starts.

Can anyone suggest any ways I might get started.

Please can anyone help me find my ancestor Emma Owen before her marriage? I have hunted an hunted but can't seem to find any trace.

Here is all the info I know:

She was born abt 1833 in St Georges Hanover Square, Westminster, Middlesex, England.

She died in Sep 1887 in Middlesex, England.

She married David Walker on the 24th Oct 1857 at the District Church Of St Mary Magdalen, St George The Martyr, Southwark, Surrey, England. It was witnessed by Alexander Fisher and Louisa Owen (possibly her mother or sister). Emma's father is recorded as Benjamin Owen, Merchant Tailor.

I have the married couple living together with their son William on the 1861 census at 10 St. Albans Square, Lambeth, Surrey, England. Source Citation: Class: RG9; Piece: 353; Folio: 156; Page: 3; GSU roll: 542621. Emma's widowed sister Maria Sporer (nee Owen) who is a nurse and her daughter Emma Sporer also live with them.

Maria Owen was born in about 1823 in Westminster, Middlesex, England. She married John Edward Sporer in about May 1842.
in St James, Westminster, Middlesex, England. Her daughter Emma Sporer was also born in Westminster in about 1843.
