Catherine,

If you've got it narrowed down to such a small window, I think you could ask the GRO to look for you, I think they look for 4 quarters....(for his death certificate) Have you found the marriage of the wife? If you had a date for that you could assume he was dead before that date, or you could order her marriage certificate and see if she was declared a widow or divorced.

it would help if i gave u more info sorry wasnt thinking...ok he married in 1888 and his daughter was also born that same year. in the 1891 census his wife is remarried and her daugther is 1 month and i cant find him, so im assuming he died in 1890, if he didnt die at sea i dont know where he would have died as he was born in cornwall married in liverpool but daugther was married in wales. my grandma who would ave been his granddaugther was told he died at sea, as he was a marine engineer

Could someone please look up a death for John Trewhella b 1866 in Cornwall his wife was called Emily nee Thomas. Its more than likely that he actually died at sea so my grandma tells me, but im thinking something fishy (pardon the pun) has happened and the family was just told that. i have tried but im finding nothing im most proberly doing it wrong as usual.

Thank you
regards
