Elliott family in Victoria Australia

My husband's family name is Elliott and for the last four generations the eldest son's middle name has been Finlay, derived from Eliza Finlay (b.1856 in Ballarat Victoria Australia) who married Edwin Elliott (b.1852 in Maryborough Victoria Australia). I am trying to pick up the link to England as their parents may have emigrated to Australia during the goldrush period. This is proving quite difficult as my husband's grandfather deserted his family during the depression in the 1920s and most of our Elliott history has been lost.
If anyone knows of Elliott's moving to Australia especially Victoria region please reply.
regards,
Penny Elliott
