Any idea what this occupation on Census is?

If it's the same as the Scottish system, anyone away at sea was not supposed to be included in the "land" census. Any record included by the census collecter would have been crossed out by the "checker".

There ought to be a category under places for "Shipping" records, where sailors were included.

Hi Betty,

On the 1901 census Liverpool a James E Bygroves aged either 40 or 48 (hard to tell on image) occupation has sailer crossed out and Seas AB added as correction. What does this mean?
