Hello,

I am researching Thomas Shallcross. Thanks to the help I have received from many people at GR, I have been able to confirm the location of his house/grocery shop at Spout St, Leek, Staffordshire in 1861. The Globe Inn was located next door. By 1881 Spout St had been renamed St Edward St.

I am trying to establish if the Globe Inn was operational in 1841. Unfortunately Thomas was not residing in Spout Street then, so I am not sure how and if I can obtain this information.

Would appreciate any advice.

Many thanks

Helen

You can search the 1841 census by address at www.findmypast.com. That gives 122 results for Spout Street, Leek in 1841 - but you need credits or a subscription to see the details. But at least that confirms that the street existed then! Maybe someone with a sub will have a look for you...

Found it on Ancestry, thanks to Google! It starts on HO107/1005/6/21/2 . No street numbers though, unfortunately.

Cheers

Hello all,

Many thanks to everyone, I really appreciate you taking the time to respond to my posting. It was so much easier when I had Thomas living next door :-)

At least now I do have a starting point. I seriously think the Globe Inn was built well before 1841,, but at least now I hopefully will be able to confirm (or not ) if it was operational in the early 1800's.

pardon the pun but cheers

Helen
