Thank you Margaret, but there is no birth registered for John McGhee in 1863 although there is one in 1865 born in Prescot and another in 1860 for John Daniel born in Bethnal Green.

The one on the 91 census who is married to Ellen says born 1863, Holloway, London.
There's another one born 1865, Hackney, son of Daniel & Mary.

Do you have any further information on John McGhee such as the name of his parents and/or siblings. The only way to confirm which is the correct one would be on his marriage certificate (it will list the name of his father.

Yes, the 1871 cencus has him as 8 years old.
Father - William 31
Wife - Anne 31
John - 8
Anne - 5
William - 3
Mary -1.
The Address is Buckingham St. Marylebone, London.

In the 1881 Cencus there are two entries for John McGhee.

The first at 30 Medway Str, St. Margaret & St. John the Evangelist, Westminster.
Father - William 40
Wife - Ann - 39
John - 18
William - 13
Fanny - 9,
James - 8
Catherine - 5
Theresa - 1

The second is for 9 Teal Street, Bethnal Green.
Father - Daniel 46
Wife - Mary 46
John - 20
Eliza - 17
Walter - 14
Charlotte - 12
Alice - 9
Ellen - 6

On both of these cencuses all the men have occupations as Masons which is correct.

The John i am looking for got married in 1883 to Ellen Lynch in St. Georges Hanover Square, London (waiting for the certificate).

A bit more info would help us to help you. What census gives his dob as 1863? Where did he live? Any family to help identify him? Ages in censuses are often wrong by a few years.

Can anyone please help me try to find the right birth date for John McGhee, the cencus says he was born in 1863 but the only births i can find are in 1865 and 1860.
How can i check which one is right?
