Tracing my mothers family which takes me to family of Rose's in Birmingham. In particular Edward c 1844 who married Elizabeth had daughters Lucy Jane and Emma or on some census Ellen. My mother decends from Lucy Jane's line but however I am a bit confused trying to find Edwards parents. I believe it is Edward c1817 but can't make out if he married a Mary. If anyone has these in their family trees or researching the Rose family I would be grateful for some help.

Hi Wendy. I have had a look at this and you will need to work backwards.

I can find a Lucy J.registered 1866. July/Sept. Qtr. in Aston Birmingham. vol 6d 290.
Emma Ellen. 1868 Jan/March Qtr. reg in Birmingham. vol 6d 33.

Copy of one of these birth certificates will give the Mothers maiden name.
You need this to trace the marriage of Edward.
I have found a possible.
Edward to Eliza Jane Mills. 1864. Oct/Dec Qtr.Birmingham. vol 6d 83.

On the 1881 census she is shown as Elizabeth but on the 1891 as Eliza.
If Mills is her maiden name then a copy of the marriage certificate will give their Father's names and occupations and witnesses who may be siblings.

1891 census.
Edward. 49. Brewer and Malster. Born Quinton. Worc./Staffs.
Eliza. 53. Born Birmingham

1881.83 Baggott St. (Kings Arms) Birmingham
Edward. 37. Born Quinton.Worc.Lic.Victualler
Elizabeth.40. Born Halesowen.
Lucy J. 14. Born Birmingham
Emma E 13. Born Birmingham.

The following is a possible connection but you need further info before it can be proved. I cannot find birth registry for Edward at the moment. Needs more searching. with Father's name it should help.

1861.
George Rose. 61. Shoemaker. Born Nottingham
Mary. 52. Shoe Binder. Born Castle Church.Staffs
James. 18. Shoe Maker
EDWARD 15?? Shoe Maker
Emma. 13. Shoe Binder
Frederick. 10.
Andrew. 8.

1851
Ann Rose. Widow. 73. Born Bromsgrove.Worc.
Sarah. Dau. Single. Born Harbourne.Staffs.
Mary. 14. Grandau. Born Harbourne
Elizabeth. 11 Grandau.Born Harbourne
Harriet. 9. Grandau Born Harbourne
EDWARD. 7 Grandson. Born Harbourne
Emma. 3 Grandau. Born Harbourne.

1841. Query
Ann Rose. 60.(ages often 5 years out in this census)
Mary. 25.
Sarah. 20.??
Benjamin. 14.
Mary 5.
Elizabeth 3
William 10 months.

No relationships shown on this census nor do they show if any are Married or widowed etc.,

Worth keeping this info and see if it does connect up eventually.Ethel.

Many thanks for your reply Ethel.

I found the entry on 1881 census which is the one you have above. From there I have found on the 1851 census an Edward age 7 visitor to Edward Rose age 70yrs another Edward Rose 34yrs who is listed as his son which I thought could possibly be father and grandfather to my Edward? Too many Edwards!

I will send for the marriage cert of Edward and Elizabeth otherwise it is going to be guess work.

I will definately keep the info you have found for me as it could all fit in. Will let you know if I get anywhere.
Many thanks
Wendy
