John Tierney born 1873 in Ireland. Of his 4 children, 2 were born in Ireland but the others were born in Chatham in Kent in 1899 and Aldershot, Hants in 1895. He was in barracks on each occasion. When in Ireland his family's home was in Kilkenney where he married but we don't know if this is where he came from. All we know is he was Irish. Does anyone have access to military records that might tell us more about him? |

There are a number of John Tierneys on the Ancestry pension records - some born around the right time. Do you know what regiment he was in, in the 1890's? What was his wife's name and his childrens names? |

Thanks Janice, this is him and his family as my grandmother is his daughter Aileen. The thing is, I cannot go back any further than him as the census only says he was born in Ireland. When I emailed the priest in the church where my grandmother got married, he told me that he had no record of her father John in his parish records. Mind you, Kilkenney has a few parishes! There are so many John Tierneys in Ireland and I have no way of knowing precisely where he came from. Would his military records show this do you think? |

Yes, they would normally give place of birth. |
