James/Fanny/Florence/Herbert/Alice Alma/Olive - someone must know them help?? Either Florence or Alice had a daughter Olive who seems to have vanished after the 1901 census - she was listed a grandaughter - but no birth seems to have been registered - any information would be appreciated - Olive appears to be my grandmother but I cannot prove it yet! |

If you got hold of your parent's birth certificate it would show the mother. |

As Jill says, a copy of your parents birth cert would give the name of their mother and their father (if it is shown). When was this Olive born/where? |

Possible birth - using second name? Mabel Olive becomes Olive Mabel? Looks good, no other Mabels on 1901 born Hastings.(Only other one in Sussex born Brighton and another birth reg shown for her)} |

Thanks for the information - will get a copy of the birth certificate. My difficulty in finding this was due to the fact that my mothers birth certificate showed her mother as Olive Lawrence - the problem - mum was born in Sheffield in a Work House - after the birth she was taken to Hastings where she was raised by her paternal father and his wife as their own child and never adapted. It was known that Olive originally came from the Hastings area. |
