Thanks all!

We do know she was known as Mrs Johnson while married (obviously!)

Then after the divorce she still called herself Mrs Johnson for a while.

Then she lived With John Brennan for many years and was known as Mrs Brennan.

Then she married Brian Tovey and was known as Mrs Tovey (again, obviously!)

Maybe she used whatever name she felt like at the time, depending on how she felt that day LOL

Thanks all

The cert I've refered to is my own, I'm listed twice (ok 3 times due to an error) & both my names are shown on the new cert.

My second marriage is only registered once.

There is no mention of my maiden name on my second marriage certificate.

Mary,I have not heard of second marriages being recorded under maiden and first married names before, I suspect it is recorded twice because she was known as both names, I know many instances where second marriages are only recorded under first married name.
But as Claire says, it is the same certificate.

Mary it's the same cert.
When a woman marries for a second time the entry is shown twice, once under maiden name & once under married name. Both of her name should appear on the new marriage cert

Here's on for you clever folk, 'cos I'm sure stumped.

This is regarding my husbands Mum.

Doreen Staples was born June 1936 in Leicestershire, England.

She married Norman Johnson on 20 Jul 1953 in Sunderland, England.

The marriage was short lived and they divorced.

She then lived with a man called John Brennan for many years. They separated in approx 1974.

She then married a Brian E Tovey, in Bristol, England.

NOW, here's the odd part.

I have found the following:

Doreen B STAPLES married Brian E TOVEY, Jul, Aug, Sept Quarter, 1975, in Bristol, England.
Vol 22 pg 0795.

ALSO

Doreen B JOHNSON married Brian E TOVEY, Jul, Aug, Sept Quarter, 1975, in Bristol, England.
Vol 22, pg 0795.

Looking for Brian I find:

Brian E TOVEY married JOHNSON, Jul, Aug, Sept Quarter, 1975, in Bristol, England.
Vol 22, pg 0795.

AND

Brian E TOVEY married STAPLES, Jul, Aug, Sept Quarter, 1975, in Bristol, England.
Vol 22, pg 0795.

Given that you can't get married twice at the same time, which cert do you all think I should order (on a budget here!)
