You may find the research guide at the National Archive useful, may give you some pointers - look under Assizes

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/researchguidesindex.asp#p

Or perhaps the country records office may hold some information

Gillian, as I said on your thread on trying to find, it does not say what she was jailed for, it gives the address as High Cross Street, but no name for the prison.

Hi Gillian

Give Leicester archives a ring

The Record Office for Leicestershire, Leicester & Rutland,
Long Street, Wigston Magna, Leicester, LE18 2AH
Telephone: 0116 2571080

and see if they hold any records for that period relating to the jail, quarter or petty sessions etc.

Gail.

It seems that Prison was the County (Bridewell) House of Correction on Highcross Street. I believe it was for minor offenses.
