Reg, Kathleen and Jennifer

Thanks very much for your replies and sorry for the delay in replying.
I cannot believe i did'nt think about getting the marriage cert, sometimes the answer is staring you in the face and you just don't see it. So once again thanks to you all.

As you have already been advised, the second marriage certificate should give his status at the time. My father-in-law's second marriage also shows the name of his first wife in the Condition column, so you may find the same.

Does your sister in law recall the name of the person who told her this?

If you obtain the cert for the 'second' marriage, it will tell you his marital status at the time........assuming he didn't fib!

Hi Reg and Kath,
I think i've been though all probable years searching for this.
It just seems like it never happened, yet my mil told me the ex wife used to ring up when they first married and later my sister in law, who was a carer , met a man who told her his late wife used to be married to Sid ( as he was always known ) Tansley.
It's really frustrating !!!!!
But thank you both for taking the time to look, i thought it was just me missing it.
Sue.

I've looked at 1926 to 1947 and can't find a marriage for Arthur Sidney Tansley, although there are quite a lot of marriages for the name Arthur without a middle initial.

The only one I found in Leicester was for an Arthur A. Tansley (I know this is the wrong middle initial) in the Sept. qtr. of 1928, and then his marriage to Cary in 1947. Perhaps he just lived with his first partner? Have you got the certificate for his second marriage? If so what does it say about his condition of marriage (bachelor, widower, divorced etc.)?

Which images have you viewed? Let us know which years/quarters you have searched, so that we don't go over old ground.

My father in law was known to have had a previous wife before he married my mother in law in 1947. His name was Arthur Sidney Tansley born 1910 in Leicester.
I have hunted high and low to try to find a record of this and come up with nothing.
I wondered if any of you sharp eyed people may have better luck than me.
Regards Sue
