Trying to find Sarah Ann Bates nee Priestley

I am trying to find any information on the Husband of Sarah Ann Bates nee Priestley b1854.
In the 1871 census she is single
In the 1881 census she is living with her parents Jonas and Betty Priestley with her three children and is a widow at age 28.
She was my 4x GAunt.
Any help on this would be gratefully recieved

To be sure if you order one of her childrens birth certificates it will give you the fathers name:

Births Dec 1877
Bates Clara Halifax 9a 570

Births Mar 1880
BATES Mary Hannah Halifax 9a 514

There is a death registered j/f/m 1881 for John Bates aged 41 Halifax ref Vol 9a page 396.

unfortunately John could not have died in 1877 as his youngest children were born 1878 & 1880
