This could have been a son of that Hyam:

Name: Hyam Moses
Year of Registration: 1838
Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar
District: Whitechapel
County: London, Middlesex
Volume: 2
Page: 605

Or this one could have been -- this one's in the same location as the older Hyam in 1841:

Name: Hyam Moses
Age: 46
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1805
Relation: Head
Spouse's Name: Rose
Gender: Male
Where born: Middlesex, England

Civil Parish: Christchurch Spitalfields
County/Island: Middlesex
Country: England

Registration district: Whitechapel
Sub-registration district: Artillery
ED, institution, or vessel: 3c
Household schedule number: 68

Sarah Brown 18
Hyam Moses 46
Phoebe Moses 18
Rose Moses 41
Ralph Raphael 2

Actually, the Hyam Moses who died in 1838 would maybe more likely have been a son of that Hyam.

Just looking for something somewhere that would have parental info on it ...

In the English 1841, you have a real live Hyam Moses:

Name: Hyam Moses
Age: 60
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1781
Gender: Male
Where born: Foreign Parts
Occupation: Confectioner

Civil Parish: Christ Church Spitalfields
Hundred: Ossulstone (Tower Division)
County/Island: Middlesex
Country: England

Registration district: Whitechapel
Sub-registration district: Spitalfields

Hyam Moses 60
Julia Moses 15 - born in county
Sophia Moses 20 - born in foreign parts

"Baker and confectioner" is a common occupational designation.

Your Caroline had a daughter named Sophia. Hyam is a widower, presumably, so unfortunately no indication of his wife's name.

A possibility!

Another thought.
Have you found her shipping records?
She would have arrived under her maiden name

Hello Jancie,
Who was the informant on the 2 childrens birth cert? was it Caroline?
Who was the informant on Andrew Peter's death cert?
Sons have a reputation of getting it wrong more often the daughters.
If Caroline was the informant on any of them you'd know she was right.
Good luck Narelle (Sydney)

Can anyone help or make suggestions at to where I go from here ??
My Gt.gt.gt. grandmother was Caroline ? Hordon born between 1824 - 1827 in Houndleditch, London, died 21/3/1887 Harrington St; Sydney, NSW, Australia. She married Peter Andrew Johnson ( probably originally Johansson - Swedish ), in Sydney in about 1843. They had :
Andrew Peter b. 1844 ( my gt. gt. grandfather )
Sophia E b. 1846
Rebecca b. 1849
William b. 1851
Joseph b. 1852-3
Caroline b. 1855
John b. 1860
Alice b. 1863.
The problem I have, is that there are 4 possible maiden surnames for Caroline !! On 2 of her childrens' birth certificates, it is Hordon.
On her son Andrew Peter's death certificate in 1886, it is Abrahams. On her husband's death certificate in 1886 it is Edwards, but on her own death certificate it clearly says Father : Hyam Moses, Baker Mother ; Caroline , that she was married at age 14 ! in Sydney to Peter Johnson, was born in London and had sepnt 50 years in NSW. The informant on both hers and her husband's death certificate was their son William . It may well be that she changed her Jewish surname to an Anglican one, but which one was it ? I am unable to find a record of the marriage certificate and she would have been too young to have had another marriage prior to Peter.
Any suggestions please ??
Cheers
Janice
