Thank you Kathryn B, you are spot on! My father's name was definitely Edred not Eldred, it's one of those names that people tend to guess at.
Thanks to Pete also, these are my grandparents.

one of you has spelled it wrong. ;)

Father's marriage:

Just some names that might help, for tracking down descendants of your dad's aunts and uncles.

One suspects that the spelling of your dad's name in the record is the error; there was a much older Edred (correct per the census image) in the vicinity in 1901:

Name: Edred Marshall
Age: 74
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1827
Relation: Head
Spouse's Name: Helena O
Gender: Male
Where born: Plymouth, Devon, England

Civil Parish: Tavistock
Ecclesiastical parish: Tavistock St Eustachius

Sub-registration district: Tavistock

Household schedule number: 171

Bessie Authors 21
William Harry 22
Ada C Marshall 39
Edred Marshall 74
Florence Marshall 46
Helena O Marshall 77
Kate Marshall 41
Mary Mills 62

The spare names in the various households are pretty much all servants.

I'm looking for any relatives of my father Edred James Leigh Marshall, of Plymouth, his father was Oswald Marshall b 1855, Stoke Damerel? I am missing half my family, never met any of my father's relations.
