Hi kath,
yes, you can use just the father's name and mother's forename (you don't even need her surname), without the individuals name, and that way you MAY get the whole listing of children of that parentage.
BTW, I wasn't getting at you for the submitted, I was trying to emphasise to Marilyn, if she didn't already know that if she did what I suggested and do her own searching, then she should watch out for submitted.
Wet and windy here, ferries have been cancelled on and off all day long. I've been keeping an eye on your dumps of snow as well. We leave on Tuesday on Via Rail across to Toronto and then on to Halifax!
Snow snow keep away!!!!
have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

What, Sylvia?
First, I thought that without a batch number, one HAD to have a complete name for the individual being searched for.
Now I find that if I leave the name blank and enter
father: John Wilkinson mother: Ann Mekin
I do get results -- the exact ones I'd already found, and no more. ;)
I was certainly trying to caution about the submitted records. I tend to think that when they have precise dates and places (rather than the ", , of ," business often given for parties to marriages in submitted records, e.g.), somebody must really have taken them from parish records. But those records need to be checked to be sure.
Damp in lotusland is it? We're revving up the self-charging flashlight and counting the candles, just in case ...

Thank you Kathryn and Sylvia.I will try that.Have a lovely christmas.

Go to www.familysearch.org (the Mormon site), click on Advanced Search, scroll down to International Genealogical Index (IGI).
Enter father's name, mother's name in boxes to the RIGHT
choose the year, and place names.
Then look through the 194 names that appear!
It's all free
BUT you DO have to be extremely wary of SUBMITTED records, which is what all the ones found by Kath are ........... they have been SUBMITTED by church members, and are just as likely to be made up as not!

Aha. Guessing that John would have had a son John, and hunting for him by mother's name in the IGI:
John Wilkinson Christening: 21 OCT 1764 Sheffield, Yorkshire, England Father: John Wilkinson Mother: Ann Mekin
also undocumented, but looking detailed enough that it could well be taken from parish records.
No luck looking for a daughter Ann.
Randomly trying the dozen names known to people in those days -- no William, Mary, James or Elizabeth, but:
Sarah Wilkinson Christening: 25 JUL 1773 Sheffield, Yorkshire, England Father: John Wilkinson Mother: Ann Mekin
You might try guessing a few more given names!

A location would help ...
Is 1776 a census birth year?
Okay:
Thomas Wilkinson Christening: 08 APR 1776 Sheffield, Yorkshire, England Father: John Wilkinson Mother: Ann Mekin
-- not documented, of course.
Heh. Have you been through the multiple batches for extracted christening records in the IGI? --

Good luck in the hunt!
