Sam,
Went on IGI to try and find a marriage for John Wilson and Elizabeth, could only find one for 1789. I could have John Wilson 1776 birth date wrong or they married very young! I shall keep looking. Just found another 7/5/1800 in Sculcoates to a Elizabeth Pashby.
Haven't found John or his sister on a census yet, I just assumed they were Hull born

Hi,
Thanks for that info. When did birth certificates start? No wonder I haven't got very far! I don't think I have John or Mary on a census,I have so much paperwork it is difficult to remember without going through it all. I do know John and Mary seem to be the names of the day!
I did go a bit wrong because his sister and his wife were called Mary and if I remember correctly it through me when looking up census'
Thanks again

Sheila

Sheila, you can't get birth certificates from 1816, so you won't find their mum's name that way.

If you can find a baptism record (have you tried the IGI) then youwill get mum's first name. Then you will have to look for a marriage of John Wilson and that lady.

Have you found John and his sister on a census? That should tell you where they were born.

Hi, I am really struggling on the paternal side of my mum's tree.If I could find the birth date of John Wilson (c1816) or his sister Mary (c1811) I could trace their mum through their birth certificates. They most likely came from Hull.Their father was also called John born c1776. John Wilson (1816) married a Mary Lambert(1821) on 30/1/1843 and had 2 children Thomas 1845 and Ann Elizabeth 1847.I can find stacks on mums maternal side but really am struggling on male side. Any ideas?

Thanks
