Trying to find Richard Horner 1890.

I was June Horner before my marriage. I am trying to trace my granddads parents. My grandparents were Samuel (1911) and Jane Horner nee Johnson. Jane was from Churwell near Leeds her mother was Clara Shooter, it is also though that Samuel was from the same area. They married in the early 1930's and had 9 children. I think Samuel's parents were called Richard Horner born about 1890 and Florence Arnold. Sam also had 2 sisters called Dolly and Ivy. It is thought that Richard could be from Yorkshire or Nottinghamshire. He came from a mining family.

You need to get Samuels birth certificate to be sure of his fathers name. There is no point looking for Richard if you are not certain.

Yup, gotta get that birth cert.

There's no Richard Horner - Florence Arnold marriage in the GRO, but there's this possibility:

Marriages Dec 1910
Corbridge Myra Dewsbury 9b 1127
Hart James W Dewsbury 9b 1127
**Horner Richard Dewsbury 9b 1127
**Talbot Florrie Dewsbury 9b 1127

preceded by this one:

Marriages Dec 1906
ADDY Amy Dewsbury 9b 1147
** Arnold Florrie Dewsbury 9b 1147
MITCHELL Fred Dewsbury 9b 1147
** TALBOT Charles Dewsbury 9b 1147

so it looks like Florrie was a widow when she married Richard.

The marriage certificate will give you Florrie's age and father's name, to start tracing her, as well.

And here's sister Ivy:

Births Dec 1915
Horner Ivy
Arnold
Dewsbury

801

so the info looks pretty sound -- but since the births are after 1901 and there's no census to place them all together, especially, gotta get that birth cert. ;)

Charles Talbot's death:

Deaths Jun 1910
TALBOT Charles
age 23

Might sister Dolly have been Doris?

Births Dec 1913
Horner Doris
mother: Talbot
Dewsbury
9b
932

and registered with her mother's former surname rather than birth surname?
