Clara Ann WARD was b in 1878 in West Rasen, Lincolnshire, England.

My problem is that I can't find her birth details so that I can order her birth certificate. I have tried several times but none of them were the correct Clara.

She next shows up on the 1881 census in Sixhills, Lincolnshire, Nottingham when she was three years old.

Clara's mother was: Elizabeth ADAM b 1847 in Middle Rasen, Lincolnshire, England

Clara's father was: William WARD b1840 in Hainton, Lincolnshire, England.

I don't yet know when they married, but their oldest son Charles was b in 1868 in Glentham, Lincoln, England.

Clara married Charles Frederick WHITE (b 1879 Burghclere, Hampshire, England) on 13 Jan 1907 St Hughes Catholic Church, Monks Rd, Lincoln, England.

They had three boys who I can't place as their actual sons, and my father - Alfred Leonard WHITE 1911 - 1993.

It's driving me nuts! and I'm hoping that someone with more experience will be able to help me.

Many thanks & Happy holidays

Just so's nobody else is trying the wrong Clara, can you say which ones she isn't?

Fr instance, I assume she isn't this one ...

Here they are in 1871:

Name: Charles Ward
Age: 3
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1868
Relation: Son - it really says "Wife's son"

editing (not deleting in case it's been read) -- I blew that; the "wife" is actually associated with the designation for Elizabeth: "Head" with "wife" written underneath.

Mother's Name: Elizabeth
Gender: Male
Where born: Glentham, Lincolnshire, England

Civil Parish: Middle Rasen
Town: Middle Rasen
County/Island: Lincolnshire
Country: England
Registration district: Caistor
Sub-registration district: Market Rasen
ED, institution, or vessel: 5
Household schedule number: 130

Charles Ward 3
Elizabeth Ward 24
George Ward 1

George just shows as "son". So it looks like Elizabeth was married before (or not), and Charles is her son.

edit: no, actually, it looks like I was being silly. No previous marrage, not based on this, anyhow.

Possibly this marriage?

Marriages Sep 1867
** BRAY Elizabeth Caistor 7a 993
East Richard Caistor 7a 993
Rose Susan Caistor 7a 993
** WARD William Caistor 7a 993

So this could be eldest son Charles:

Births Dec 1867
Bray Charles Caistor 7a 57_

Well, I would have said that, except:

Marriages Mar 1866
** Adam Elizabeth Lincoln 7a 628
Dakyns Joseph Lincoln 7a 628
Hall Maria Lincoln 7a 628
** WARD George Lincoln 7a 628

nonononon.

You've noticed that the births of Rose and Eve also don't seem to be registered?

Thank you all for your help - you got me thinking again - what if William WARD's wife wasn't Elizabeth ADAM? So I searched again on free BDM without a mother's name and look what I came up with.

Granted this is the same Clara as I tried previously but I am hoping that by omitting her mother's name I might be the right person this time.
As you can see George and William are being difficult!

Anyway I have sent for her birth cert and we shall see. It takes a while for them to reach New Zealand though so I will have to be patient.
Kind regards and Happy Holidays

I received this this morning, so it seems I am on the right track about being wrong (!) re Elizabeth's maiden name.
