From where and which year, some dates would help to try and work from.

My grandmother spoke about her father. She said his name was Harold Gray - although this could be a 'known as' name, rather than his birth name. He was a policeman who died fairly young late 30's / 40's. I can find no record of him. He lived in South London, maybe Stepney. His mother was Sarah Wootton.
