Sara,

Found this link to towns and parishes in England. Gunton is listed in Suffolk and Norfolk--not in Somerset. Is it possible that Gunton may have been part of Somerset in earlier years and then changed over to either Suffolk or Norfolk? How close are these counties?

There is a list of Somerset parishes here:

No Gunton, but several end in -ton.

Sara,

When I did a Google search for Somerset and Gunton, many items from Gunton Park in Norfolk to Gunton early families.

Thanks for the effort Joan, but unfortunately this parish is in Norfolk. The census definitely says Somerset. It's a mystery to me, it seems to have disappeared.

Sara,

I found this reference to a Gunton Parish.

Can anybody tell me the whereabouts in Somerset of Gunton. I have a relative listed in the 1851 census as servant to the curate at Gunton Rectory. Gunton is also given on the same census as the place of birth of 2 of his children but I cannot find any other reference to the place.

I would be very grateful if someone could tell me where it is.

Many thanks and Happy Christmas
Sara
