Did I miss something there, or did you just make a messy post and delete it? ;)

You're very welcome. Tell your nan the sherry's on her!

Kathryn you are one in a million you have made my day, this is fantastic.
I am writing it all down for my nan as the family history is a bit complicated on that side. plus it is going on the tree

grrrrrrrrr. I realized I should have been checking for Leonard as well as Andrew -- I was looking at Pitman because I figured there's be fewer to wade through than for Collins and less chance of getting wrong pages. So after I'd worked my way up to the end of 1931 (and was going no farther, on the suspicion your gr-grparents simply didn't marry), I went backwards, and there they were on the very second page I looked at.

Apr-May-June quarter 1928
PITMAN Leonard A.
wife Collins
district Beaminster
volume 5a
page 939

So what are you gonna do with that now? ;)

No help, I'm afraid. Your gran's memory is faulty. No Andrew Pitman on the 8 pages for 1928 and 1929. I'm going to be a royal princess and check 1930.

I asked my nan today and she thinks it was either 1928 or 1929

If you wait a while, you'll be able to find it at

http://www.freebmd.org.uk

right now, the transcriptions of the index have not got that far into the 20th century.

In the meantime, you can search manually, as it were. At a site like Ancestry you can find the page in each quarter of each year when your gr-grparents might have married, and read through the Pitmas, for instance, to find the one who married a Collins. It's time-consuming but not that bad.

Do you have an idea of the date? Like maybe from when their first child was born?
