that is the ones now i need to know how to get the birth cert for mary hooton and find out who she got married to

I thought I just proved, without a doubt, that she married William B. Smith in Stockton on Tees in 1899.

You may not be able to get a birth cert....registration was not compulsory until 1875

On Free BMD, Mary Hooton and William Bowes Smith married Dec. quarter 1899, Stockton. (Vol 10a Page 119)

Go to general register Office here:

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/

and follow the instructions. You have the volume and page numbers so never pay more than $7.00 (that should be pounds, of course, I'm in Canada)

You're right, June, certificates started in 1837, but, as Reg says, it wasn't compulsary until 1875 so a lot of people just didn't bother.
