Looking for the records of my Great Uncle. Have all his details but cannot locate any records. His name was Stephen CARNEY born 1898 in Birmingham. Oriignal name GOLDSTRAW but changed his name when his mother remarried. Joined up in 1914 and was injured during the first WW so he should have a pension. Can only find one Stephen CARNEY in the National Archives and its not him!. My mum is desperate to find any information about him. She said he was definately in receipt of as penison and she remembers seeing all his medals as a child but can't find any trace of him. Someone please help! Hit a deadend!

There are 3 Stephen Carneys' who have medal cards on the documentsonline site. You can download his medal card for £3-50. You can discount one of them - the one whose records you found on Ancestry, so he is one of the other 2! Perhaps you might recognise the regiment. As for his service records, perhaps they didn't survive, as lots didn't, or his records could be at National Archives, as they are not all online.
