Thanks Reg for all that useful stuff. It really brings the past alive when you find little gems like that - the Christine Cummings who witnessed the marriage is my other great great aunt.
Cheers

The father's name is certainly George, according to the Pension info on Ancestry........at the time one of the forms was completed, the father was living at Wilderwick Farm, near East Grinstead..........this seems to have been at the time of his discharge.

There is not much doubt about his birth year.......the info on the WW1 forms is very clear. As given to you above, he was 20yrs + in 1896

Name: George Tester
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1876
Age at enlistment: 20
Birth Parish: Woolwich
Birth County: Kent
Document Year: 1896
Regimental Number: 13129
Number of Images: 8

His attestation form was dated 13th. January, 1896.
His discharge was on February 16th, 1916

The marriage was on 1st Feb 1906 at West Derby Register Office. The witnesses were Christine Cummings and W Byrne

Thanks for all the responses about George Tester. There seem to be 2 possibilities and I think it may be the one born in 1875/6. It's not impossible that he was a lot younger than his wife but if it's the one born in 1887 he would only have been 19 when he married and his wife would have been 7 years older than him.I think I may have to order the marriage certificate.
Thanks again
Barbara

Hi Barbara,
This is also a possible.
I have a George Tester on 1901 cenus cannot view full record- born Liverpool Lancs 1877 Admin Country Northunberland Clay Pipe Maker.Only one George Tester from Lancs area on 1901.
Found family on 1881 census on LDS site so you can view Father John born 1840 Pontefract York Tabocco Pipe Maker Mother Elizabeth born 1841 London. Family living in Liverpool. There is a lot of coincidence in this family. Worth a look but would still be best to send for Marriage cert.
All the best Margaret

My great great aunt Margaret Ellen Cummings married George Tester in 1906 in Liverpool.
I have found George's family, the Testers in Kent on the 1881 census through his cousins, Naomi and Percy Langridge. However either George wasn't born then or he lived somewhere else. Trouble is I don't know who his father was. There are 4 possibilities - William, Thomas, Joseph or Charles. Can anyone help find the right man?
If it's any help George was in the army serving in Ireland in 1913 - Sergeant Tester 72nd Battery RSA Waterford.
Thanks in advance
Barbara
