Henry James Court B1839 Folkestone. He was married to Helena and both on 1861/1871 Census. In 1881 both living seperately Helena Court with brother Joseph Kershaw and sister Sarah Kershaw at 83 Cheriton Road, Folkestone. Henry was living with a Sarah down as his wife but no record of marriage and wife very much alive. I am interested in finding out what happened to them both in 1891/1901. Any help would be appreciated.

The only other one I need to find in the court family is Thomas Slater Court B1823 Folkestone. son of William and Ann Court.

Thank you for your kind help

Julia

The closest one on the 1891 census is Henry J. Court born 1840, Folkestone. He's a hotel manager with a wife, Eliza and 2 stepdaughters, Lucy and Florence Haynes.

Could Helena have reverted to her maiden name of Kershaw and remarried?
Free BMD has a marriage of Helena Kershaw and Ingram Eskdale Moat, 1885, Barton upon Irwell, Lancs. and then the death of Ingram Eskdale Moat, 1886, Chorlton, Lancs.
The 1891 census has Helena Moat, born 1842, Wakefield, Yorks (same birthplace as Helena Court). She's a widow, a boarding house keeper in Didsbury, Lancs.

Hi Margaret, it sounds as if you are correct and that Helena married again, it would be unusual for two Helena's to be born the same year and area. Helena wasn't a common name even then. Have just checked the 1881 Census and she went by the name Court and they lived at 83 Chorlton Road, Lancs.
Maybe Henry J Court died, might have to check out that one. Not to say that the 1891 isn't the correct one,
Thankyou,
Julia
