I have hit a wall in my search for information about my great grandfather John Thomas Brown, who was born in the Norfolk area around 1843.

He was married to Mary Anne Crowe on the 15th February 1867 at the parish church Burnham Sutton Ulph in the district of Docking, he was 23 and she was 19.the certificate states that they were both living in the Burnham Ulph area. His father was called John Brown and was a labourer, there is nothing about Mary's father on the certificate. The wedding was witnessed by Fredrick Pentney and Mary Anne Brown

He moved North with his family and can be found in the 1871 census, living in Jarrow, where it states he was born in Burham, Norfolk, He then moved to Heddon on the wall in Northumberland and can be found in the 1891 census where it states he was born in Salton Load, Norfolk. He died on 2nd February 1931 in Mickley, Northumberland, aged 87

I have tried without any success to find him prior to his marriage in 1867 in both the 1861 and 1851 census, to try and discover if he had any brothers or sisters and the name of his mother.

I know of two possibles for his birth certificate but have not ordered them yet as I can not be sure it would be the same person as John Brown is such a common name.

Any help with finding him and his family before he was married would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there

Always like a challenge.

Turned up a family in 1851 living at Bishopgate Norwich St Helen.
John BROWN 1820 Norwich, millwright
Milla BROWN 1824 Horning
Rbt 1844 Thorpe Hamlet
John 1845 do
Thomas 1847 do
Mary Ann 1849 do

On the map I presume Burrham is to the north of Kings Lynn. I saw a Burnham Thorpe

Had a look to tie Frederick Pentney in and found a Frederick Pentney born 1846 Burnham Westgate.
A marriage in 1867 OND Docking to Mary Anne Bean. I guess that Frederick is an old friend from the same area and if I had time to plough though the images the two families may have lived close by in the same area.

Hope this helps
