Hi,

I'm having trouble finding Emma Smith in 1851, I believe this is her in 1861:

1861 England Census
about Emma Smith
Name: Emma Smith
Age: 20
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1841
Relation: Housekeeper
Gender: Female
Where born: Plaxtol, Kent, England

Civil Parish: Epsom
Town: Epsom
County/Island: Surrey
Country: England

Street address:

Occupation:

Condition as to marriage: View Image

Registration district: Epsom
Sub-registration district: Epsom
ED, institution, or vessel: 7
Neighbors: View others on page
Household schedule number: 124
Household Members: Name Age
Matthew Deakens 21
Emma Smith 20

In later censuses she is with husband Stephen Buckfield and children as born in c.1841 in Plexton, Kent (I don't think there is such a place, although there is a Plaxtol).

Any help appreciated,

Clare

Your best bet would be to get her marriage cert, and find out her father's details.........a search would be easier with that info.

In which part of Kent is/was Plaxtol?

Yes, may have to!

Plaxtol (from google maps!) is to the west of Sevenoaks and North of Tonbridge.

Thanks,
Clare

Sorry, forgot to add that I can't find their marriage record, have looked on Ancestry and FreeBMD, the first Stephen Buckfield seems to be their son.

According to the IGI the coverage is
Plaxtol
C167161 1813-1868
1898-1904 M167161 1813-1835

but she isn't on the list.
I am having trouble finding Plaxtol on the 1841 census

Hi,

I couldn't ind Plaxtol on the census either. All I have is her son's birth cert giving her maiden name as Smith.

Thanks,

Clare

Many thanks!

I don't quite understand what's going here with her though!

Looking at the censuses when she's with her husband, she could have been born a little earlier in about 1839/40.

Thanks,

Clare

Oh thanks!

Quite possible, all her sons are named for someone, and there's a Thomas. Will look into it.

Thanks again,

Thanks, it's a shame there's no name.

This is going to be very difficult especially as I still have no marriage for Emma, other people have looked before so I'm pretty sure it's not there :(

This has been a big problem in this family, as the Buckfields (her husbands family) were travellers they tended to try and get away with not registering these things, although I don't see how they could have got married and there be no proof! It's usually only a problem with births.

Thanks for all your help,

Clare
