Jennifer - My mum always told us that her twin sister Elizabeth died when she was small of Scarlet Fever but I cannot find a death for her either. I have often wondered if my mum was just told this so she wouldn't keep asking about them & when they would be back to collect her. It does seem a bit strange that I can't find deaths for any of them.

Good luck with your own research & thanks for your input.

Lorraine, I thought you would probably have tried the Archives but worth a try, sorry I can't come up with anything else to help. Is your aunt Elizabeth still alive?
I know how frustrating it is, when I got my paternal grandmother's birth cert the father's name had been crossed off and was difficult to read. I did get lucky though when I got a sub to Ancestry as I was able to find them in 1891. A bit further back than yours.

Hope you get lucky too, Jennifer

Thanks for the info Jennifer but I have already checked with Gloucester History Society but they couldn't help. I also wrote to the parish priest at St Peters in Gloucester & the Gloucester Catholic History Society & the Archivist of the Diocese of Clifton.
I also tried to obtain my mums medical records incase they held any info but her Doctor said that she thinks they were destroyed. I also contacted the health authority where she died but still have come up blank.

Lorraine I don't know if you have tried Gloucester Archives? They have a very good web site.

http://www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/index.cfm?articleid=1348

If your mother was born in Gloucester and brought up by nuns then maybe she was in a Catholic Orphanage there if you e-mail the archive sthey may be able to help with any records. Also they may have electoral rolls.
I looked in Historical Directories and there was a Bridge Inn on Westgate St.

Of course your grandparents could have married in Ireland or not married at all. The Registrar would only write down what he was told.

If the missing quarter in 1925 is Dec Q then I have looked on the transcribers pages on FreeBMD and it is there but no Gwilym Davies I'm afraid

No nothing Minnie, I can't seem to find anything about them.

All I know is what my mum told me & that was that she was brought up by nuns but I have no idea where.

Thanks for helping.

Yes Reg I tried looking on the full bmd's on Ancestry but came up with nothing & I can't recheck as I no longer have access. Someone also checked Findmypast for me but still nothing.

I don't know where Bridget is from originally Minnie but have thought its possible she was from Ireland.

Penny

Penny Report 27 Dec 2007 16:09

is Bridget likely to be irish?

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 27 Dec 2007 16:06

Thanks for replying Reg.

I've looked on Ancestry so far & FreeBMD but haven't found anything so I thought that maybe there was a chance the marriage hasn't been transcribed yet.

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 27 Dec 2007 15:56

Where have you looked for the marriage?

Lorraine Report 27 Dec 2007 15:26

All I have is the info from my mums birth cert.
Their names are Gwilym Davies & Bridget Sullivan.
My mother Kathleen was born in 1929 in Gloucester & had a twin sister called Elizabeth.

I haven't found a marriage or death for them that would help so I have nothing else to go on.
