Trying to find information on Violet Hatt (nee Hed

By using freebmd - free - this is the reference for her marriage:

Marriages Sep 1922
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

HEDLEY Violet M Hatt Edmonton 3a 179

Using that ref you can buy the marriage cert from GRO online for £7 (never use any other site - there are some scammers who will charge up to £50 for a cert). You will need to buy some certificates, births, deaths and marriages for research and the details they will give to lead back to the previous generation.

The marriage cert will give both the groom and brides fathers names and occupations, the couples occupations and ages and where they were living at the time of the marriage plus the witnesses names - all very useful clues.

This looks like a POSSIBLE birth ref but you must buy that marriage cert first to be able to find her in 1901 census by using her fathers name and occupation as a search point.

Do not buy credits on this site - its very expensive. If you plan to do a lot of research you should take a sub with ancestry.co.uk (in fact if you go there you can take a 14 day free trial for ALL the census and the bmds and LOTS of other stuff). Most of us have a sub and renew it every year as its just the best site to have for this hobby. Meanwhile go over to tips board and Ill bump up the tips for newbies thread to help you.

she was born in london/romford area in around 1905 and lived in that area all her life.

im not sure if i used the partial freebmd :S im very new to this, i looked on this site and looked through the hedley births around the year 1905 but there was no violet and there is also no death records for a violet hatt in 1968 or 1969

her maiden name was hedley.

thanks for the reply

You havent given us the area of birth or marriage? If you have not been able to find her marriage or death by using just the partial freebmd, which is not complete and still being transcribed, you will need to use a pay to view site and go through all the likely years quarter by quarter.

As you can see from your heading, the full maiden name is not shown, can you also give us that please.
