Have you bought his marriage certificate to check out his fathers name and occupation and the place of residence at the time of the first marriage? £7 from GRO online using the following ref

I am trying to trace my great grandfather who was born in 1861 and married Elizabeth Wheeler in 1883 in London (Lambeth), she died in 1903 and he re-married Isabella Blunden in 1903 in Poplar.

I cannot trace his birth record or that of his brother Edwin Digby Smith Granger. The surname Granger maybe spelt Grainger.
