Trying to find any connection to Mary Vazquez born c1873 married in Gibralter to a my Great Grandfather. Her Father was Michael and that is all the info I have for her. My Great Grandfather was a soldier and they went after marriage to Egypt where they had my Grandad. They then came to live in the UK. Any info would be useful.

It might help in the search if you gave the name of your gr-grfather -- Mary Vazquez's husband. ;)
There were two Vazquez births in Hackney, in 1901 and 1905; might they be related? One is Miguel; would that likely have been the original name of the father of Mary (Maria?)?
The marriage of the person who is likely the father of the two children is apparently registered as both Miguel Vazquez and:
Name: Miguel Vasquez De La Corte -- it actually says VaZquez De La Corte Year of Registration: 1900 Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar District: Hackney County: Greater London, London, Middlesex Volume: 1b Page: 618
No Vazquez showing up in the 1901 census, per Ancestry, anyhow.
Ah. This will be he:
Name: Miguel Vazgrey Age: 39 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1862 Relation: Head Spouse's Name: Amalia Where born: Apnish Subject, Spain -- surname actually says Vazquez de la Corte
Name: Amalia De Le Corter Age: 37 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1864 Relation: Wife Spouse's Name: Miguel Where born: North Finchley, London, England -- surname actually says "ditto"; the "de la Corte" has been hived off from him and applied to her Civil Parish: Stoke Newington Ecclesiastical parish: St Mary County/Island: London Country: England Registration district: Hackney Sub-registration district: Stoke Newington ED, institution, or vessel: 3 Household schedule number: 225
Amalia De Le Corter 37 Eugenie Robeson 42 - sister-in-law Julia Robeson 47 - sister-in-law Miguel Vazgrey 39 - secretary of public company
The name in the marriage list that matches up ... approximately ... is Lilla Colebrook Robeson (born 1862, Barnet).
Anyhow -- I mention it just in case you think there might be a connection. The marriage certificate could indicate whether Miguel and Mary might be siblings. A long shot, but you never know.
There's also one findable Vazquez in 1891:
Name: Jacobs B Vazquez Age: 18 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1873 Relation: Boarder Where born: Almica, Spain Civil Parish: Lambeth Ecclesiastical parish: South Lambeth St Stephens County/Island: London -- occupation: correspondence clerk
and the few others in censuses are crew on Spanish vessels.

You know that the mayor of the City of Gibraltar in 1971 was a Vazquez?
http://www.1rg.gi/history/regiment.qxp
"On the same day the Regiment was granted the Freedom of the City of Gibraltar by the Mayor of Gibraltar, the Hon Alfred Vazquez during a ceremony outside the House of Assembly."
Someone here at GR has much more recent Gibraltar Vazquez-s in her tree.

Kathryn.. Thanks for that info. My Great Grandfather was Alexander Fitzsimon. Thay were married in 1891 in Gibraltar as my GGrandfather was in the Army there. They came back to Engand to live in Manchester where she died in 1897. Her Father as far as I know was Michael.

Hi Ann -- yes, I realized after all that Miguel business that there seems to be a clan of Gibraltar Vazquez-s with quite English names. ;)
Maybe you and Charles will have a connection. Good luck!
