There were no male Tinn births registered in the 2nd quarter of 1960 (Apr-May-Jun). There were two male Tinn births registered in the 3rd quarter of 1960 (a birth in mid-late June could have been registered in July). Just in case your half-brother was registered as a Tinn, they are:

Douglas G. Tinn
mother's surname: Dewart
district: Sunderland
vol. 1a
page 1451

(He married in 1991 in Kent.)

Sheldon I.M. Tinn
mother's surname: Kennedy
district: Willesden
vol. 5f
page 368

(No record of a marriage after 1984.)

My English geography isn't top-notch, but I think Sunderland might qualify as northeast England.

I believe you could obtain a copy of the birth certificate if you think one of them could be your half-brother; it would show the parents' names. -- But hey, better than that: search for the names in trees here at GR and you'll find that one of them is actually a member himself, and can be contacted through this system.

Otherwise, you're missing the crucial info: your half-brother's mother's surname.

I thought it worth taking a shot at finding him in official records with surname Tinn, but it seems you may have to hope for more informal contacts.

Hi Lynda -- you'll want to fix your post. The subject line ends at "son of" -- son of whom? You can edit your post to put the name at the beginning of the body of the post.

With that info, someone might be able to help find something. Of course, if you know *his* name, that would help even more. And his mother's surname. It sounds like the only info you have is his father's name, understandably.

As it stands, a search could be done of the birth index, say for the April-June and July-Sept quarters of 1960, for the surname of his father -- but if he was registered in his mother's surname, and you don't know it, there's no way of searching for or identifying his birth.
