Thanks for your replies folks. I've been in contact with the records office and it turns out that none of the male patient records for this period have survived which is a shame.

I don't really know the answer to your question as I was unaware you could access these.
Working in Mental Health long enugh to have worked in an asylum and being aware of the corridors filled with patients noted, they have to be kept long after death, like obstetrics.
However these records remain confidential, so it is unlikely that you would be able to access much more than you would through the census, as each patient in hospital has to be reported as such to the census....I remember 2001, 1991 I was fortunately off!

I was just wondering what kind of information I could obtain from these records, ie. how detailed etc?
